Work Being Done to Strengthen Trade and Economic Relations Between Greece and Kurdistan Region

Today, Tuesday, 4/15/2025, Kamaran Salah Bajger and Marouf Azizxan Harki, Deputy Chairmen of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the attendance of some members of the Administrative Council and the General Director of the Chamber, received Georgios Almanos, the Greek Ambassador to Iraq, and Nikolaos Stergioulas, the Greek Consul General in Erbil.
After welcoming them, a meeting was held to discuss several topics related to strengthening and consolidating trade and economic relations between Greece and the Kurdistan Region.
Kamaran Salah Bajger, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Greek government for its cooperation and coordination with the Kurdistan Region in the past period, saying: "The aim of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to focus on developing trade and economic relations with all countries. Greece is one of the countries that has advanced in many sectors, especially agriculture, tourism, and construction. We hope to work together to strengthen these sectors between Greece and the Kurdistan Region."
The Deputy Chairman announced: "Due to the direct relations, good coordination, and interaction between both sides, we request assistance in bringing Greek investors to the Kurdistan Region to participate in investment and further revitalize its economic infrastructure."
Kamaran Salah Bajger expressed hope that Greek companies would participate with greater enthusiasm in international exhibitions in Erbil with the aim of showcasing their products and introducing them to our citizens. He also requested the Ambassador to provide more facilities for Kurdish traders and investors when traveling to Greece.
Georgios Almanos, the Greek Ambassador to Iraq, thanked the Chamber for this reception and expressed his pleasure with this visit, saying: "Greece and the Kurdistan Region have a strong and solid relationship at the highest levels." He extended his thanks and appreciation to the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has always continued to further develop relations.
The Ambassador stated: "We are working to strengthen economic and trade relations between Greece and the Kurdistan Region, and we continuously encourage our investors to invest in the agriculture, tourism, and construction sectors in the Kurdistan Region." He added, "With the opening of a direct air route, trade relations will enter a stronger phase."
The Ambassador also highlighted that Greece, in addition to the sectors mentioned, is also advanced in the production of certain types of food products and can export these products to the Kurdistan Region.
During the meeting, the Chamber attendees presented the work program of the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government to the guests, which includes diversifying economic resources and revitalizing and developing all sectors. They expressed hope that Greek investors and companies would assist them.
In this meeting, discussions were also held regarding organizing a trade meeting between Greek and Kurdistan Region companies and traders in Erbil city. The Greek Consulate and the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry will coordinate to organize this meeting in the near future.
