Following the signing ceremony establishing the India-Kurdistan Business Council, the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomed the President of the India Trade Promotion Council and several businesspeople from that country.
This Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2025, Kamaran Salah Bajger and Maroof Aziz Khan Harki, Vice Presidents of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with several members of the Chamber's administrative council and its General Director, welcomed Mohit Singla, President of the India Trade Promotion Council, Daban Abdul Hamid, Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and a number of businesspeople and company owners from various sectors in India.
In a meeting attended by several businesspeople and company owners from the Kurdistan Region, Kamaran Salah Bajger, Vice President of the Chamber, delivered a welcoming speech highlighting the strengthening of trade relations between India and the Kurdistan Region. He announced that at the end of 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the India Trade Promotion Council, which will play an effective role in increasing trade exchange, adding, "As a Chamber, we always support and assist these relations."
Kamaran Salah Bajger said, "The Kurdistan Region has a promising market, and the volume of trade exchanges proves this reality. India's exports to Iraq reached $2,652,000,000 (two billion, six hundred and fifty-two million dollars), consisting of textiles, tiles, food items, and pharmaceuticals, with 30% of this volume going to the Kurdistan Region. Meanwhile, Iraq's exports to India reached $24,348,000,000 (twenty-four billion, three hundred and forty-eight million dollars) in oil and dates."
The Vice President of the Chamber expressed hope for expanding the volume of exchange between the two sides in the future.
For his part, Mohit Singla, President of the India Trade Promotion Council, said, "Currently, Indian businesspeople and companies are focusing more on the Kurdistan Region market, and in the future, we will export more products from all sectors to the Kurdistan Region."
He added, "Indian products can compete with products from other countries, and we will coordinate more with our Kurdish partners."
After the speeches, the purpose of the visit was explained to the media in a press conference, followed by a business meeting between companies and businesspeople present from both sides.
